Crave - J.R. Ward Let me just start off by saying that this series just keeps getting better and better. J.R. Ward has a way of making you fall in love and sympathize with characters that in a normal novel would be straight up bad guys. The thing is that these big bad dudes are so tormented and damaged in the worlds that Ward creates for them that you can’t help but fall in love with them. OK, enough gushing - on with the review. Once again fallen angel Jim Heron has to fight evil to save a soul at a major turning point in their life. He goes in blind but not alone. His side kick fallen angels Adrian and Eddie (along with Dog) are there to back him up, but there is only so much they can do. Especially when it comes to fighting the pure evil that is Devina. In this book you get even more of Jim’s past, which conveniently intertwines with his new soul that needs saving - Isaac Rothe. For Jim, this one is personal and it costs him - a lot.All the players in this book are damaged in some way and in need of a big warm hug. Jim feels the need to save everyone, not just the souls he has been assigned. Adrian is a mess and you just keep waiting for him to finally crack, yet he keeps it together when he needs to, especially for his friends. Eddie is the responsible one but feels helpless when it comes to protecting Adrian. Isaac can’t live with what he’s done and just wants to make it all right - even if it means giving up the love of his life - especially since he knows he’s not good enough for her. Grier seems to have it all together, but she’s an emotional mess herself and has fallen hard for someone who she knows is going to eventually break her heart. Even the bad guys have their moments when you almost feel sorry for them and their situation. Those moments don’t last long so you can pretty much ignore them if you want. This was a book that you just didn’t want to end. I think part of that for me is because, unlike the BDB series, once you leave the main characters (Isaac and Grier) their story is over. You do have Jim, Adrian, Eddie, the quartet in Heaven and of course Devina to look forward to in future installments though. Envy is the next book in the series and since it was released this week, I won’t have long to wait to see where the boys end up next.
