Well, that was interesting… This wasn’t a bad book. Actually it was kind of sweet and a pretty good ‘feel good’ romance. However, it reminded me of why I prefer Paranormal to Contemporary Romance. Here’s the thing. When I’m faced with an impossible, unrealistic scenario in a book – especially a romance – it’s just easier to accept when it has a paranormal twist. True, it’s probably my quirky mindset, but that’s just the way I’m wired. The stage was set pretty early in the book, and the synopsis pretty much covers it so I’m not giving anything away by revealing that this whole thing starts because of a mix-up at a fertility clinic. I know that mishaps happen at fertility clinics. Human error is always a possibility and mistakes happen. That’s actually not where the craziness for me started. It was the other factors that were introduced that kind of threw me for a loop. Unfortunately, without giving too much away I can’t really go into it. Let’s just say that there were almost too many obstacles thrown into mix that seemed to be there just to make things harder for everybody involved. It made me dislike characters that I felt like I really should be sympathetic to and it made me really wonder about the motives and loyalties of others. To be fair, like I said, I’m not a huge fan of contemporary romance. I keep reading them because every once in a while I find one that I’m really glad I took a chance on. There were things that I liked about this book too. The characters, for the most part were good. Sometimes the dialogue seemed a little awkward and the scenes progressed a little choppy, but it was easy to read and I found myself wanting to know what happened. I can’t say that I was happy with some of the decisions that some of the characters made along the way or at the end, but that happens in a lot of books so that wasn’t a huge deal either. All in all I think that the story would have been a lot better if there was only one big bad obstacle to overcome instead of the strange turn of events that readers were left with. This is the first book in the Dancing Moon Ranch series and the next book, Pandora’s Box is previewed at the end of Righteous Lies. I might just have to check it out to see what happens next and give the series one more try.
