Well, that was intense. I’m not exaggerating either. I don’t think that there was a moment in Lord of Misrule that someone’s life didn’t hang in the balance. Yikes!Lord of Misrule started exactly where Feast of Fools left off, which is a very good thing because things definitely didn’t end well in the last book. Bishop’s arrival in Morganville pretty much turned the entire town upside down. He was pure evil and he wasn’t going to back down until he got exactly what he wanted. There were more forces at work in Morganville than just Bishop. Seems that the chaos that he was causing was the perfect opportunity for others to start causing trouble. Humans with a grudge, Vampires fighting for power and tornados pretty much ensured that no one was safe – not even the vampires.Claire, Eve, Shane and Michael were all in the thick of it, as usual. They spend a lot of time apart in Lord of Misrule and more than once they were thrown into life or death situations. Through it all, they had each other’s back. I love the way they love and protect each other… even when they say or do something stupid. Which also happens more than once.It was really easy to tell who the really bad guys were, but it’s becoming harder and harder to tell who exactly it is that should be trusted. That’s not a new thing in this series, it’s just that the players were rapidly changing in this one – right up to the very end. I think I actually yelled at the end of Lord of Misrule because I couldn’t believe the way things were left and who was left barely standing and in some cases, not standing at all. Did I mention that this one was intense?I’ve been reading the Morganville Vampires series in Volumes and I think that I’ll continue to do it that way. They are short, fast reads but they are packed full of action, mystery and just enough romance to keep things interesting. I read Lord of Misrule in Volume 3. Next up is #6, Carpe Corpus. So glad I decided to read them this way because each one seems to end in an even bigger cliff hanger than the last.
